Hey. Look at me. Please leave yourself a note somewhere you’ll see it later that says “it is going to take years if not decades to get the United States government to the level of functionality it had in November of 2024.” If we elect a democrat in 2028, we are not going to be up and running by 2032.
Please make sure you have a reminder in your phone reminding you to not look at 2028/32/36 Democratic candidates and say “why are they not promising/delivering Cool Shit?” because you are going to understand that to get Cool Shit we must have competent people running a decently funded government, and we are not going to have that.
We are not getting UBI. We are not getting single payer healthcare. We are not getting free college or free preschool. We are not redistributing wealth on a large scale. We are not getting free internet. We are not getting ranked choice voting.
If we are lucky, we are going to get an IRS that can collect taxes, qualified schoolteachers, research grants, Social Security, and a government that thinks maybe it should be a priority for people around the worlds to not have AIDS, malaria or TB.
To be clear, I don’t mean we should forget or take our eyes off the ultimate long-term goals of getting Cool Shit, but to get there, we’re gonna have to support things like “half-measures” and “small steps” and “not tearing down people who won’t get us all the way there” and “understanding that they are starting from the basement basically because every government institution is being decimated”
in other words: don’t repeat what you just did to biden.
it happens every. single. time and not just in the us, it’s happening right now in the uk: a right wing government runs a country into the ground so bad that their own voters can’t support them anymore, so next time a leftist / centrist government is elected. they barely have the time to build the key institutions back up and stabilize the economy before voters who refuse to acknowledge subtle improvements or value strong foundations that can be built upon go “sure, you stopped the roof from leaking and fixed the plumbing and we have reliable electricity now, but those are not flashy enough! why didn’t you bring us utopia from a rubble in 4 years?” and vote back the right wingers who of course wreck everything again as they promised they would while the same voters make the surprised pikachu face
please stop repeating this cycle

Here’s a link to the EFF page that contains this information:
On Android
With the release of Android 12, Google began allowing users to delete their ad ID permanently. On devices that have this feature enabled, you can open the Settings app and navigate to Privacy > Ads. Tap “Delete advertising ID,” then tap it again on the next page to confirm. This will prevent any app on your phone from accessing it in the future.
On iOS
To see which apps you have previously granted access to, go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking. You can set the “Allow apps to Request to Track” switch to the “off” position (the slider is to the left and the background is gray). This will prevent apps from asking to track in the future. If you have granted apps permission to track you in the past, this will prompt you to ask those apps to stop tracking as well. You also have the option to grant or revoke tracking access on a per-app basis.
Apple has its own targeted advertising system, separate from the third-party tracking it enables with IDFA. To disable it, navigate to Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising. Set the “Personalized Ads” switch to the “off” position to disable Apple’s ad targeting.
“In the same way that your heart feels and your mind thinks, you, mortal beings, are the instrument by which the universe cares. If you choose to care, then the universe cares. If you don’t, then it doesn’t.” – Brennan Lee Mulligan, D20, Fantasy High
This is the same kind of thinking of folks who are upset with the Democrats not “doing anything”
They did stuff people take for granted because “they’re obviously smart ideas, so they probably already existed a long time ago.” That’s all it is.
Also, I want to add to the list:
- Birth control (1936)
- Abortion (1973)
- Domestic violence becoming a crime (yes, really)
- The suffragettes (1903) were decades ahead of social work (late 1900s), so women weren’t doing that either
- The first woman was elected to the house of representatives in 1916 (Jeanette Rankin)
- In 1922 Florence Ellinwood Allen is the first woman elected to a state supreme court
- Women are granted the right to serve on juries (1947)
- The use of contraceptives is completely legal for married couples (1965)
- No fault divorce (1969)
- Sex segregated “help wanted” signs banned (1973)
- Housing and credit discrimination based on sex outlawed (1974)
- Public schools are no longer allowed to discriminate based on sex without justification (1982)
We take some of these so completely for granted that we have trouble really believing that some people are currently trying to roll things back.
Abortion is under attack, with birth control the next admitted target.
Some people really do want to get rid of no-fault divorce. (Murder rates went down when we got no-fault divorce because someone’s death was no longer the only way out.)
Our current administration wants to eliminate DEI, which is just diversity, equity and inclusion. What they want is to push out anyone who disagrees with them, or is not a white man. It’s re-segregation, but they don’t want to call it that…yet.
They want the Gilded Age back, with the hugely unequal and stratified society, the lack of worker and environmental protection, and women dependent on the men in their family again. The wrecking ball they are taking to our government is supposed to return us to a better time, and people assume the fifties, but, no. They want to be robber barons and tycoons.
I think as gamers we can all agree that pointless gay outfits should be a requirement for all video games
You there! Federal museum professional educator or FEMA climatologist or NOAA metereologist or CISA cybersecurity specialist or Army civilian logistics employee. How would you like to work for ICE? No? Not interesting? You’re working for ICE now. You’re working for ICE or you’re quitting. You don’t get a choice. You’re an ICE brown shirt or you’re out of a job.
This is not hyperbole. This is happening across the entire United States government.
Today my museum announced three employees are ‘surplus’ and have been offered jobs with ICE.
The Army is deactivating two commands and combining them. The surplus civilian employees from this merger? Sent to ICE.FEMA has been forced to transfer employees to ICE mid-hurricane season.
Nobody wants to work for ICE, nobody wants to be la migra. So they’re forcing it to happen at all costs.
what the fuck what the fuck what the fucking fuck
It’s worth mentioning that forcing people to work for agencies that they don’t want to work for is how you get problems with noncompliance and internal sabotage. So…. -pointed look-
This is also a class-action lawsuit waiting to happen. ACLU, do what you do.
